2017 Africa Photo Tour to Botswana & Kenya

I'm happy to announce my next photo tour to Africa. This trip will take us first to Chobe NP in Botswana. Here the group will work from specially designed boats for photographers. Each photographer will work from a captain's chair that swivels 360 degree, a post with Wimberley head, and Nikon body with long lens (500mm-600mm) perfect for Nikon users or those folks wanting to travel light. Chobe National Park has an amazing diversity of wildlife including the largest elephant herd in Africa, Cape Buffalo, Nile Crocodiles, and numerous bird species. The wildlife shows little fear of man while on the water thus allowing us to approach closely.

This will be my third trip to this area and I never leave disappointed. My last trip I added 35 new species. We stay in a nice lodge with great food. Because we have access to boats I can take up to 12 photographers on this trip. The flight will be to Johannesburg, South Africa, arriving August 11 and departing August 21 if only doing this Chobe trip.

The second portion of the tour takes us to the Maasai Mara of Kenya. Here we hope to catch the wildebeest/ zebra migration. The Mara has amazing wildlife, with most of the large mammals you would expect to see and photograph in Africa including, lion, cheetah, leopard, elephants, cape buffalo, crocodiles, & spotted hyaenas. This portion of the tour is limited to 8 photographers, due to seating arrangements on our specially designed photographer friendly vehicles. Once again we will have Captain's chairs which swivel 360 degrees along with the post and Wimberley head for fast action shots. The same Nikon gear can be used as on the Chobe. For those doing this tour and the Chobe we arrive in Johannesburg August 11 and depart on August 31.

I was asked by a couple of photographers if I could add an extension to the tour. I have added Etosha National Park in Namibia. I visited this park in the past and wildlife photography at the waterholes was spectacular! Unfortunately I have very limited vehicles for this add on so I can only take 5 photographers on this tour. This park has amazing wildlife including elephants, cape buffalo, black rhino, giraffe, and so much more. Those doing this portion will arrive Johannesburg August 11 and leave September 9.

Because these Africa trips keep going up in price an average of 10-15% each year and I try to keep costs as low as possible I would appreciate a check as opposed to PayPal. However I do realize that many folks do need or want to use credit cards so I will have to charge an addition 3% for PayPal usage.

This has been a very popular trip in the past and I do expect it to sell out very quickly. So sign up soon. See you in Africa!

General Comments

"Mike is a terrific guide, who strives to provide the best possible opportunities, as evidenced by his many repeat clients. He keeps his trips fun and interesting, with small groups and great wildlife photo ops. I've been on ten of his trips in the past few years and look forward to traveling with him in the future."

Patagonia Trip

"Terrific opportunities for scenics and wildlife in remote and beautiful locations. I came away with great images of condors, guanacos, stunning mountains framed by vibrant flowers, and even penguins and a puma!"

Texas Whitetail Trip

"Wonderful trip! Great accommodations and a chance to photograph numerous whitetail deer with impressive antlers. We observed the deer in action, feeding and jousting, plus numerous other animals: barn owls, butterflies, tortoises, a tarantula, a centipede, and more. My memory cards were overflowing!"

Texas Bird Trip

"The chance to photograph from blinds was a new and eye-opening experience for me, providing nearly non-stop opportunities to photograph beautiful birds close up. I got hundreds of photos of dozens of different birds, plus various other creatures, exhibiting a variety of behaviors. It was great to be able to shoot at eye level, with the sun at our backs. Great trip!"

Katmai Bears Trip

"Fantastic trip! We had continuous opportunities to photograph brown bears fishing, splashing, and fighting. I loved the chance to get hundreds of action shots and observe the bears in their natural habitat. We also photographed birds, including bald eagles, plus jellyfish and scenics. So good that we are repeating the trip."

Africa Trip

"The chances to photograph African wildlife up close are amazing on this trip. Traveling by boat lets you approach much closer to the animals, especially birds. Elephants, crocodiles, kingfishers, storks, and numerous other birds were abundant. Most of folks on this trip immediately signed up to go again!"

Yellowstone Trip

"This was my first trip with Mike and I liked it so much I did it again the next year. I was worried about being cold, but even with subzero temperatures, it was not a problem. Yellowstone in winter is magical and a private photo tour gives you a chance to stop for photo opportunities that most winter visitors miss. Our accommodations at Old Faithful and the Canyon yurt camp were outstanding. The cold weather provides unique opportunities to see frost-coated bison and animals such as bobcats and foxes with thick winter coats. The uncrowded geyser basins, frozen waterfalls, and snowy scenery make this a great trip - highly recommended."
