Wow is all I can say about this three week trip to the island nation of Madagascar with my group of 8 photographers. It had been ten years since my last visit and the changes were noticeable. There were more National Parks, and much better lodging and food. The airplanes were modern!
One thing that hasn't changed is the destruction of the forest; the population still cooks with charcoal. So we witnessed vast tracts without trees and the smoke that comes with creating charcoal. I think most folks on the trip were amazed at the poverty they observed, we have so much and they make do with so little.
The photography was spectacular with something for everyone. I'm sure the favorites were the numerous species of lemurs we were able to observe close up, in some instances on our heads and shoulders! The chameleons and geckos were found everywhere. It got to the point where we would find them without our guides at night by flashlight. The baobab trees were also a favorite.
I will not wait 10 years to go back again. If you are interested in traveling with me to this amazing place please feel free to drop me a line. See you in Madagascar!!
