2013 Wild Horses Trip Report

Another fun trip into the rugged Pryor Mountains for wild horses in July. The roads were interesting to traverse this summer as flash floods left some roads in rough shape...to the point where they were about to collapse! Good thing for 4 wheel drive.

As usual "Cloud" the famous stallion was on top of the mountain with his band as well as about 90 other horses from this herd.

I did something different this year and also checked out the paint horses near Cody, Wyoming. They were harder to find then I had thought they would be but eventually we tracked down two bands and a number of bachelors. Also we spent an evening at Bighorn Canyon NRA with a band of eight wild horses. Checked out some tipi rings along a short trail that the NPS has just built. As usual for this time of year the flowers were in full bloom, we also saw wild turkey (a first), and mule deer. Time now to sign up for 2014!
